Introduction
Lectures
Week 1:
We had our first lectures on 7/2, and came out with module information from the lecturers. We knew that all the tasks in this module were continuous assessments and had to be completed as a group. We also asked to do some research about 'Everyday Design'---which related to our assessments, and how it can be connected to culture.
Week 2:
Our lecturer invited two guest speakers to provide detailed information and ideas related to the 'Everyday Design' project. Both of the guest speakers had rich experiences at the KL Design Festival 2024 with the theme 'Everyday Design'.
After that, we were required to divide into a group, and the group members must include students in semester 1, semester 1.5, and semester 2.5. After forming the group, we discussed the title and began to work on the proposal.
Week 3:
Our theme, 'Rooster Bowl,' was decided in a short time, and Erene was chosen as the group leader. After deciding it, we started thinking about the titles we need to research and write in the proposal document.

Project 1
We divided into two small task group like visual reference(idea) and canva slides(presentation slide). And I was visual reference group. After done the document, we worked on presentation slides.
Everyday Design Proposal by Group 11(week 1-week 3)
At the first we forgot to connect our visual reference and idea to Gen-z, but luckily we still settled it in a short time. Thanks for the Dr Charles's feedback~
Feedback by Dr Charles: 'Well…over time we see integration of aspects of the Chinese culture in a new form of modern gen-z culture. So perhaps the bowl may be more than what it is..☺'
After that, we chose neon-coloured rooster bowl as the main theme. We thought that it could attract more young people due to its vibrant and modern aesthetic.
Feedback by Dr Charles: Proceed on it, and u can consider to add a light strip around the bowl to make it more visual appeal.
We took his advice and applied it to Project 3.
After done the slides, we recorded the presentation video by zoom. Here's the presentation video>

Week 4
We began to work on Data Collection.
I took Design Research Methodology last semester, so I knew how to approach it and suggested to my team members that we use surveys as one of the methods in this project.
We also thought another two methods like online research and online interviews as supplementary methods. We applied online research in our proposal, so we also used some of the information in Project 2.
For survey-
Our survey question was made through Google Forms, and we need at least 80 responses to it.
The form title: Modernising Rooster Bowl Culture for Gen Z
Here's the form link: https://forms.gle/A3nFb2RhtZk5pQQZA
Finally we got the minimum responses in a short time!
And our group member started to analyze the responses for Project 2. (proof in slide)
And for online interview-
Our group members interviewed a handcrafter from China through a personal message on TikTok.

Week 5
Worked on project 2 presentation slides.

Data Collection by Group 11(week 4-week 5)
Week 6
We discussed the materials needed to make the rooster bowl. After discussed it, our leader bought it from online and local shop.
After the online items arrived, we scheduled a time to meet at school to make the bowl. We also discussed on the venue to shoot the video for project 3.
Week 7
We met at school and started drawing the pattern on the bowl. One of our members was absent, but fortunately, our progress was not delayed too much.
Our task on that day: draw rooster bowl pattern using neon-coloured paint on two cups and two bowls
I'm the one who draw the cup.
Since the paint need 2-3 days to dry, our group leader brought them home and we met at KTV on Thursday for shooting the videos. The KTV was dark, making it a suitable setting for the neon-colored paint to stand out clearly.
On Thursday, our group member all present (Finally...)
We began to prepare the neon sticks and wrapped around the cup and bowl with light strips.
preparing process~
Our group members also bought food like cakes and fried chicken, as we needed to film scenes that we using the bowls and cups to eat and drink. -suggestion by Dr Charles.
We also film other funny scenes to make the videos more storytelling and creative!
I'm surprised that we completed all the scenes within three hours, and the video editing process was also successfully completed within one day!
Project 3
We worked on the project, 3 slides and presentation videos.
Our detailed progress and output are included in the slides.

Reflection
This module is quite fresh and interesting! At first, I was confused about the 'Everyday Design' topic. However, after receiving explanations from the lecturers and guest speakers, I understood it and became eager to work on the task.
Working on the 'Rooster Bowl' project was both fun and challenging. From researching and writing proposals to crafting and filming, every step required teamwork and flexibility. Dr. Charles' feedback helped us refine our ideas, and we found a creative way to modernize the traditional design with neon aesthetics.
Even with tight deadlines and a few hiccups, like team member absences, we stayed on track. The survey and online interview gave us valuable insights, and our fun, storytelling approach made the final video even more engaging. Finishing all the scenes in just three hours and wrapping up editing in a day felt like a huge achievement.
This project pushed me to improve my research, problem-solving, and collaboration skills. Seeing everything come together in the end was incredibly rewarding, and I’m really grateful for my team’s effort and dedication.
