EXERCISE 1 KINETIC TYPOGRAPHY(10%)
In week 3, we asked to do kinetic typography by group. First, we chose LOWKEY
from NIKI as our song to use. After that, we decided a color palette and font
to make everything looks consistent. I also assigned the part for us to do.
'Wonder what I'll do when the cops come through
And the whiskey's run out
'Cause I've been lookin' at you since half past two
Wanna take this downtown?'

After that, I created Null Objects and linked the text layers to them using
the Parent Link function. This made it easier to control the movement of
multiple lyrics at once. By adjusting the position and scale of the null
objects, I was able to create smoother and more coordinated motion for the
text.

I added Shape Layers to act as masks for certain lyrics. I then applied Track Matte to control how the text appears and disappears within those shapes.

After that, I combined all the parts together and posted it to YouTube.

EXERCISE 2 CHART ANIMATION(5%)
In Week 3, we were introduced to motion graphics and asked to create a
chart animation using Adobe After Effects. I was assigned to produce a Bar
Chart Animation.
Our lecturer provided a tutorial video as a reference guide because most of us
don't have experience on doing this kind of animation.
After watching the tutorial video, I was able to understand the basic
animation skills. And I decided Top 5 Most Followed K-pop Idols
(Millions) as my topic.
I didn’t just follow the tutorial step by step — I also tried to add my own
ideas. I added a moving background to make the design feel more alive instead
of plain and static. I also improved the text animation by making it smoother
and more natural.
Here's my process screenshots..
EXERCISE 3 VECTOR/CHARACTER ANIMATION(5%)
In week 4, we required to complete the vector animation with the ai file
given by lecturer.
First, I separated the layer in Adobe Illustrator.
After that, I imported to After effect.

For the pocket money animation, I added pop up and some stretch and squash animation by adjusting the scale and position. It make it appear in a more interesting way.

For the main characters, the Rabbit and the Girl, I animated their
appearance by scaling them from 0 to 100, combined with Motion Blur to
create a smoother and more natural transition as they enter the scene.
Additionally, I used the Puppet Pin Tool to add subtle movements to
their bodies, making them feel more alive and less static. To maintain
continuous motion, I applied a loopOut expression so that their
movements repeat seamlessly throughout the animation.
Besides that, I added a bouncy effect to the coin by adjusting its
position using keyframes. By carefully timing the keyframes and
modifying the speed graph, the coin appears to bounce naturally, adding
a more playful and dynamic feel to the animation.

For the clouds, I animated them to appear from left to right by
adjusting their position and opacity, creating a smooth and natural
transition. I also carefully arranged them along the timeline, ensuring
they enter and exit at the right moments to match the overall flow of
the animation.

FINAL OUTPUT
REFLECTION
Through these exercises, I learned a
lot about using After Effects, even though I was not very familiar
with it at first. At the beginning, I found it quite challenging,
especially understanding the tools and how animation works. But
after following tutorials and trying it myself, I slowly became more
comfortable.
For the kinetic typography, I
learned how to match text with music and keep the design consistent.
For the chart animation, I understood how to present information in
a more interesting and clear way. For the character animation, I
learned how to make characters move more naturally using different
tools and effects.
Overall, I feel that my skills have
improved, and I am more confident in doing motion graphics now. I
also learned that practice and experimenting are very important to
get better results.
