Visual Analysis

The composition of the artwork is thoughtfully structured to create a harmonious scene. The figures are placed in the center, surrounded by evenly spaced trees that give the piece a sense of balance and stability. The repetition of the trees adds a rhythmic flow, guiding the viewer's eyes through the artwork, while also unifying the different elements. This repetition makes everything feel connected, pulling the composition together as one cohesive whole.

Repetition – The identical trees, spaced out evenly throughout the piece, create a rhythmic visual flow. This repetition not only keeps the eye moving but also ties the scene together, helping to reinforce the sense of unity and harmony within the artwork.

Emphasis – The small human figures at the center naturally draw the viewer's attention. Their contrast against the dark trees makes them the focal point of the composition. The central positioning of the figures, combined with the way light surrounds them, highlights their significance in the scene.

Contrast – The sharp contrast between the dark silhouettes of the figures and trees and the glowing orange background creates drama. This play between light and shadow adds depth and makes the piece feel more dynamic, heightening the emotional intensity of the scene. The contrast also gives the artwork a sense of mystery and special.

Light is a key element in this artwork. The warm, glowing orange background contrasts with the dark shadows of the figures and trees, creating a striking interplay of light and dark. This contrast not only gives depth to the piece but also emphasizes the central human figures, making them stand out as the main focus. The light seems to radiate from the background, creating a gentle, ethereal glow over the scene, which adds a dreamy, almost otherworldly quality to the artwork. It also sets the mood, evoking feelings of wonder and calm.

The layered cut-paper technique adds depth and dimension to the piece. Each layer is carefully placed to create a sense of multi-dimensional space, almost as if the viewer could step right into the scene. The overlapping elements add complexity and make the piece more immersive, attract the viewer to explore the space. By using layers, the artist guides the viewer’s eye from the foreground to the background, enhancing the sense of storytelling in the piece.

There’s also include strong sense of movement in the artwork. The way the trees are positioned and the cutting of trees creates the feeling of an environment that’s alive and changing. The detailed branches of the trees suggest movement, like a soft breeze passing through the forest, adding life and energy to the scene.

Color also has a powerful impact. The golden-orange hues evoke warmth and nostalgia, contrasting beautifully with the dark shadows. This color palette creates both mood and depth, reinforcing the emotional tone of the piece. The glowing background suggests an eternal sunset, adding a timeless quality to the scene and evoking a sense of suspended time.

Balance is another important principle at play. The evenly spaced trees and the central placement of the figures create a visually stable composition. The weight of the elements is well-distributed, which makes the piece feel grounded and peaceful. The balance between light and dark, as well as between the foreground and background, ensures that the viewer’s attention is drawn to the most important parts of the piece without feeling overwhelmed.

In the end, this artwork by Hari & Deepti is a beautiful combination of craftsmanship, storytelling, and design. By using light, layering, repetition, contrast, and other design principles, they create a world that pulls the viewer in and makes them feel as if they are part of it. The immersive nature of the piece allows the viewer not only to see but to feel the emotions woven into the scene, making it a truly captivating visual experience.

For improve ideas:

I will adding some smaller secondary focal point like leaves surround the human or birds perched on tree, to create a balance visual interest. These smaller details can guide the viewer’s eye around the composition and prevent it from feeling too centered or static.

The design principle I include will be balance and emphasis

By introducing secondary focal points, the balance of the piece would feel more dynamic, as the viewer’s attention shifts from the central figures to these smaller elements. This would also help to tell a more complete story, subtly enhancing the narrative

IDEA 1

I added some smaller element like wind and leaves surround the human and the birds perched on tree, to create a balance visual interest. These smaller details can guide the viewer's eye around the composition and prevent it from feeling too centered or static. The design principle I include will be balance and emphasis.

IDEA 2

For the second idea, I decided to change the figure of the trees to triangle shape, to make it more creative and dynamic. Instead of using traditional tree forms, the triangular shapes introduce a sense of abstraction, making the scene visually striking and unique.

IDEA 3

For the third idea, I changed the human's size, make it larger and place it on the side of the scene.  The perspective shifts to show the person looking back at the leaves, the emphasis moves from the person to the leaves themselves, changing what the viewer perceives as the main subject.

I also create a narrative to tell the story behind this artwork based on my understanding...
These three ideas all depict the main character as a god who protects the forest, so for the TASK 3, I will add more mystery element on it to make the artwork more storytelling.

Feedback:

Week 3:
Make it become more colorful jungle.
Suggest to recoloring it.

Week 4:
Add more explanation on the picture to make it easy to understand
