PROJECT 3:ANIMATED INFOGRAPHIC

Requirement: In this final project, I need to transform my Project 1 Instructable Infographic Poster into a 60-second motion graphic video. I will use the same assets from Project 1 and maintain the original design style and storytelling, while enhancing it with animation, sound effects (SFX), and music. This project is completed in pairs.

So, I discussed with my partner, Ngo Ting Xuan, and we decided to use my Project 1 as our final project. We divided the tasks where I worked on the storyboard, Illustrator pages, and SFX, while Ting Xuan focused on the animation.

First, I created a storyboard by using Procreate for our project to plan the flow and sequence of the video.

After getting approval from my partner, I started working on the animation pages in Illustrator. It didn’t take too much time since most of the main elements were already created in Project 1.

I adjusted the layout and background color, and added some extra graphic elements such as illustrations of the sun, hands, and speech bubbles. To make it easier for my partner to animate, I organized and separated the pages and layers clearly, so the workflow would be less complicated and more time-efficient. And before the animation, we also decided our BGM-Whisked Away.. which is a soft music.

After that, I felt that my workload was not too heavy, so I decided to complete the first six pages to help our group save more time and speed up the progress.

I imported each layer into After Effects.
At first, I created the opening animation using the Circle effect to introduce the scene in a smooth and engaging way.

After that, I made the Grandma character appear together with the title “Grandma’s Recipe,” inspired by a cooking game style. They appear with a pop effect using scale animation and motion blur, creating a fun and lively introduction.

The “Grandma’s Recipe” text appears using Text Animator > Range Selector > Offset with a Ramp Up (Ease High) setting, creating a smooth and slightly dynamic text reveal effect.

After that, I made the spaghetti slide in from the left, and added a smooth “stopping” effect by adjusting its position and rotation keyframes, making the movement look natural and dynamic.

I also added sliding banners for the chili and garlic at the top and bottom, and also a speech bubble appear in middle to highlight the special features of the dish. These elements move smoothly by applying the motion blur and Easy Ease effect.

On the Ingredients introduction page, I made the ingredients appear with a bouncy effect by adjusting their scale and opacity, making the elements feel more playful.

On the step page, “FIRST STEP – DRYING CHILIES UNDER THE SUN,” I animated the sunlight and made the outer part of the sun rotate continuously using a loopOut expression, giving the scene a lively and dynamic feel.

After I finished my part in After Effects, I sent the project file to my partner and waited for her to complete her animation work. So I can add SFX on it.

FINAL ANIMATION WITH NOT SFX

After she sent me the final animation, I started to add sound effect on it by using Premier Pro.
I imported the final video in Premier Pro.

I added the sound effect which downloaded from Pixabay website

First, I added a pop-up sound effect to the animation of the Grandma appearing at the opening, to make the entrance more lively and fun.

I also added the whoosh-movement sound effect for the spaghetti appearing from right to left.

FINAL OUTPUT

REFLECTION

In Project, I understood how to bring a static poster to life through motion, sound, and timing. At first, I wasn’t sure how to animate all the elements, but creating the storyboard and organizing the Illustrator layers made the process easier. I enjoyed making the Grandma, spaghetti, ingredients, and banners move in fun ways, and adding sound effects really made the animation feel alive. Collaborating with my partner taught me how to divide tasks and communicate effectively. Overall, this project improved my skills in animation, timing, and combining visuals with audio, and I feel more confident creating motion graphics now.
